Finally a smart decision
A while back I was on the fence about getting my tank cleaned or replacing it. It had heavy varnish from sitting up for years. For once I listened to the collective wisdom here on the forum and replaced the tank. Here's what I found when I cut it open. This was after several DIY attempts to clean & flush.

yep, the only way to truly clean a tank out 100% is to cut it open and clean then weld it back. Or if you go threw the trouble of removing it...Just replace with new.
