Yes, very sad news. I love the g2’s. Too bad they never offered financing, pricing was pretty rough. Very sad but not entirely surprising. I feel awful for those families out of work. Just sad news for boaters no matter how you feel about it.

They will discontinue production of Evinrude E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines. The Sturtevant, WI, facility, will be repurposed for new projects to pursue our plan to provide consumers with an unparalleled experience on the water. “Our outboard engines business has been greatly impacted by COVID-19, obliging us to discontinue production of our outboard motors immediately. This business segment had already been facing some challenges and the impact from the current context has forced our hand,” said José Boisjoli, President and CEO of BRP. “We will concentrate our efforts on new and innovative technologies and on the development of our boat companies, where we continue to see a lot of potential to transform the on-water experience for consumers,” he added. Discontinuing Evinrude outboard engine business and signing an agreement with Mercury Marine "Following our decision to discontinue E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines, we have signed an agreement with Mercury Marine to support boat packages and continue to supply outboard engines to our boat brands. We will continue to supply customers and our dealer network service parts and will honour our manufacturer limited warranties, plus offer select programs to manage inventory. These decisions will impact 650 employees globally." Pursuing new opportunities within Build and Transform phases of strategy With this announcement, BRP will be positioned to expand its presence in the pontoon and aluminum fishing markets through technologically advanced solutions. Maximizing operational and functional efficiencies Lastly, BRP will consolidate Alumacraft operations from two sites to one. All Alumacraft operations will be transferred to St Peter, MN, and the Arkadelphia, AR will be permanently closed. In addition, they plan to upgrade the boat production facilities to reorganize manufacturing sites and apply the modularity model used elsewhere. So the boat sales are still good, but motors are not. There must be more to the story than the fault of covid. I googled boat sales during pandemic and got stories from very bad to a good sales despite it. RV’s for example are selling very well. I would imagine that high dollar boats are still selling.

Yeah, you could see it coming. No movement whatsoever by BRP toward the high HP market. Good bye two strokes, nice knowing ya!! Who would have thought Mercury would now be one of the "big dogs", I remember back in the 70's - 80's when the favorite saying about Mercury outboards were "they are black and don't want to work"

Love my ETEC G1, But thought the G2 was kind of ugly. Also liked my ‘85 Merc 150 which lasted 28 years. Bought the ETEC because lighter and seemed simpler than newer Mercs, also quieter and never had a Merc start in 2-3 seconds even after a few month shut down. Sad like seeing a good friend leave. What’s the next lightest 150, my G1 is 418#.

My 98 Suzuki dt200 is 470ish pounds. I’ve heard 450-470. So I’ll go heavy.
I wanted to repower with Evinrude g2’s. But now gonna have to go suzuki 4strokes. Suzuki 150ap (and 200) is 520-530lbs depending on rigging. Yamaha 150 (and 200) are 489 lbs. cost for 2- 200’s and rigging here was 36k |

Those new 3 cylinder motors looked good for our boats. Especially twin 150’s on a 23 at 390lbs each!
