I have an Apollo 15" 4 blade that I have used on my 18' SF. The first motor was an old Evinrude 120 and it's currently on a 2009 Merc 90. On the Evinrude I lost 2 mph on the top and it would plane down to about 16 - 17. On the Merc 90 I lost nothing on the top and lowered my planning speed to 14 -15 mph. The Mercury is much lighter than the Evinrude at about 305 lbs vs 365 lbs. It also pops up on a plane much faster than the 3 blade did. Motor height made a big difference in performance also. Overall the 4 blade worked very well!

I believe Denny can help with this discussion, although he had a 150hp etec on a bracket.

I have a 20 foot Seafari with a 115hp Johnson on a 25 inch transom, and would be interested in how your boat performs with a 4 blade prop, as I have been running a 3 blade aluminum in 15x15.

right now im running a viper 17inch...works good, gets on plane fine but when it gets ruff i would like to back off the throttle more and still stay on plane. i would also like to get the bow up more in a fallowing sea/cape cod bay chop, I think it falls off at about 2500-3000 rpm?. I allso like the smoothness of 4 blades. I put one on my scarab and it made a world of difference!
