Angry Credit card fraud at Boats.net

I just got mail saying that my info MIGHT have been compromised. In case i purchased something between Dec 2012 and July 2013.

In case anyone else here buys stuff from them, keep a lookout in your postal mailbox for a warning.

I just flagged my credit file and asked for credit reports...

Sorry to hear it, was the letter from them or your bank?. Dirt balls everywhere.

Your bank should take care of it. I wouldn't talk to any one else.

Gilly....that's NOT a very impressive list of reviews!! Thanks for the info, I've used their web site to look up parts and prices, just never ordered things from them....and probably won't.

at least boats.net told me... No fraud yet. They carry a lot of product but are slow to ship. Oh well.

know how to avoid these kind of problems ?

shop local - establish a relationship with your local dealer, after all,he supports your community by paying property taxes, and education taxes, along with hiring local people...

dealing with internet "stores" - well, most of these "stores" have no inventory, the items are drop shipped from the warehouse - reason a slightly lower price can be offered - often times, that price isn't that much lower...cutomer service ?? well, have a question on how to use/install that product,i don't think you're gonna get far emailing/asking for help huh ?? however, establish a relationship with a local dealer, and that changes - he's local, you have a problem, odds are he's gonna help you out...

shopping by price alone,it provides no true comparison of value...

attempting to save 25cents on a $100 item, then waiting a week for that item, doesn't seem all that wise to me...here's a queston "what's your time worth" ??

I've bought several things from them over the past year especially and I'm not worried. My guess is they had an incident or a few, and felt they had to send letters with certain language to a certain number of customers because that is how the law is written. I haven't received a letter yet. We have been victims of credit card fraud, and identity theft also, and neither were from buying on line. Not that it can't or will not happen but in these times you kind of take your blows as they come unfortunately. They have some of the lowest prices but are pretty much the worst in the shipping and customer service departments.

I try to shop locally. And for mercruiser stuff, I am covered. When the price premium hits more than 25%, that's tough to swallow, but I usually do. But yamaha stuff generally becomes a mail order affair.
