Default Anyone running the Honda BF250?

I've seen some repowers on a 22 Whaler, Proline 23 and a Steiger.
All are claiming rediculous mileage, like 4mpg at 25mph. The motor
appears to match performance of the Yamaha 300. I'm pondering.........

Hey Brian, my brother has a 225 Honda on his boat. Not as much power out of the hole as my Merc 2 stroke, or as fast. however....the big hitter.....he uses half the gas I do!! 3.5 to 4.0 mpg on plane, 4000 rpm @ 25 to 27 is about right. Missed ya a Long Point. Seeya

Wish I could have been at long point!

I hear the 250 Honda is head and shoulders better than the 225...not saying the 225 was bad.

With the Etec 250 being such a bear and getting about the same mileage its seems to be getting alot of play at that power. The 150 and 250 are just dominating in that HP range, I had a friend put an early 150 on a 22 SeaRay replacing a Merc 150 and was getting 4+, almost got thrown out the back on the water test too LOL.

I love my BF250. I would put it up against any 2stroke going, its much quieter, burns less fuel and the get-up-and-go is awesome. The down side is the weight (just like any 4stroke) hanging on the transom. I went with the big bracket so I could pick any motor that I wanted, and wasn't limited by weight. This summer I am planning on doing a side by side comparison, between an Etec 250 on a Scepter and my CC/BF250.

The older 225's are a little different than this new 250, the intake systems are different and I am not sure if they had the Vtec setup or not. Down low, at a troll, (under 1500rpm) it dosnt burn ANYTHING for fuel.

This year I want to try planing with a 4 blade prop also and see how that changes things.

Yeah, my brother's 2006 225 has the VTEC, at about 3800 - 3900 rpm you can feel it change as the valve timing adjustment happens, sure is NO big deal. Ditto on quiet, at idle you have to look at the pee hole to make sure it's running When we did our transoms I made duplicate wooden stands to mount the engines while working on the transom, that's when I discovered there is NO doubt the Honda is heavier than my clunker Merc.

Also the 250 Honda would be 250lbs lighter than my Suzii
115's.

WildmN, what are your performance numbers?
