The SC and Me Beat Sandy in a 12 Round Decision
Hey CSC Folks,
Wow, Sandy was a mean one for up here. I'm sure lucky and glad that I didn't suffer all the same stuff as many of my neighbors. I'm over here in Nj just south of Atlantic City, on the same island. I left the SC in the water because I felt it would do better there than trying to float away on land or get hit by debris ripping in between the houses. So I put 10 lines on her, centered her really well, topped off her batteries for the bilge and in case I had to cut her loose and hang in the lee of something or ride the rest of Sandy out on the hook. I really thought I would lose the docks and go over the pilings. I came close, really really close. Sandy came within 2" of the doorways front and back and kicked up 4' breaking waves when she was really cranking for about 6 hours. Really though the boat was really rocking and rolling for two days. On top of that my dockrings were right at my piling caps. I stayed on the boat with it running as the eye approached during the astronomical high, hoping the surge would stop and the waves would stop making the dock do the herky jerky. Well 9 pm was supposed to be high and it was 8:30, but the Moon lost it's pull and the eye passed right over and the 80-100 mph blow instantly stopped. The water smoothed then after 10-15 minutes the wind came around from the NW it had been blowing for two days and went SW. I had the boat running ready to cut the SC loose if the dock started shifting over the pilings. The tide seemed to stall within 15 minutes & that SW wind was cranking helping empty the bay, it started dropping 1" every 3 minutes, all the debris from the streets and yards started heading out on the wind and tide. I got damage, a lot of cleanup, but I also picked a good spot to put the cars and have no water in the house. I was able to keep my dock and my bait in my pens and do not have a mark on the SC. To add to it, how about Sandy hit my Mom and other family directly in Jamaica only to come all the way north to hit me directly, both places the family has been fortunate. Life's good. Pics in a few!

Glad to hear you faired well. Amidst all the destruction, it's good to hear the survival stories. I'm sure they'll be few and far between for awhile. Wishing all our northern bretheren well!

No doubt you have passed the test!!!
 Risking life and limb to save a Classic SeaCraft....  One of the reasons I built a SeaCraft bomb shelter! Very grateful you came through better then most.

The first pic showing the tops of tall pilings supporting the floating docks, compared with the last pic of the dock inches from the top of those same pilings, scary. You were very close to going for a boat ride. Congratulations on coming through.
