Oily Residue From Prop?
So I havent had the time to take my boat out for the past few weeks (like 2 months almost). But I do make sure to start it up every few weeks make sure the batteries are good and what not. But now I am seeing this oily residue coming from the prop its dark but not very slick. Do I have a bad seal somewhere in the lower unit ?

Oily Residue
If you're just running it at idle with 50:1 premix, which contains a LOT more oil than the motor needs for idle speed, yes, a lot of residual oil will build up in the exhaust passages, so it'll eventually dribble out the exhaust. The 50:1 mix is really only needed for WOT operation. When you're out on the water and running at high power, the oil gets blown out and doesn't have a chance to accumulate. What you're seeing is totally normal. If your ran through a long 30 minute idle speed zone with no subsequent high speed operation before pulling the boat out, I think you'd see the same thing.

If you have never done it, you may want to do a De-carb procedure, you may see an increase in performance. Like the other guys said, its the way to go for pre-mix motor because of the 'loading up' with the oil rich mixture.

if you decide to do the de-carb on your merc i want to know how it worked for you. my 84 black max runs 50:1 also so it probably could use it too.

Decarb
The oil-rich mixture will eventually cause lot's of carbon build-up on the rings and pistons, leading to stuck rings and even detonation from glowing carbon on top of pistons, so doing the decarb bit can head off lots of problems. OMC had some stuff you sprayed in the carbs with motor running at idle and then let it soak for an hour or so, and then run it hard to blow it out. I'm sure Merc has something similar, and I think Sea Foam does the same thing. Haven't kept up with this as BRP says no need for decarb on the E-Tec's if you run the XD-100 full synthetic oil since they seem to run about 100-150:1 oil mix overall and maybe about 300:1 at idle!
