Default 20 Master Angler Deck Re-do

Hey guys, back in 2008 I totally restored a 78 Master Angler. I did the deck, the transom and re-cored the topcap. Anyway I now realized I made a mistake when I replaced the deck by not raising it because water comes back through the scuppers and into the boat. I put in rabuds but that doesn't really help the problem too much.

I really love the boat and so I'm thinking about once again removing the deck and putting in a new one, this time maybe two inces higher than before.

The other option is to deal with the water and/or use plugs in the scuppers.

What are your suggestions ?

It's not that big a deal to just put plugs in the drains when you're not running. If the deck doesn't need repair I certainly wouldn't redo it. Anyway, thats what I do.

Have a 76' 20' MasterAngler with 1992 200 Yamaha with original deck. Have used plugs for years and fish the hell out of it and travel all over the place. I have five 1/4" drain holes in drain rail mid aft. Takes care of excess if there ever is any and its not enough to sink a boat that can pump out 3600gals/hr. Have never had a problem. I am bummed I can't have a saltwater washdown, but raising the deck and no plugs is in the near future.

Don't rip her up just yet. Try Carl Moesly's solution of "Criss Crossing" the scuppers with pvc pipe out the transom. (ex: Port scupper drains to Starbd / Starbd drains to port)

I actually gave thoought to a setup like that. I can't completely criss cross them because the pipes would cross right at the splashwell hatch. What if I ran the pipes along a slight down angle but ran them a little paralell to the floor/back ?

I almost started cutting last night lol. It would be a shame because I just re-did the deck three years ago during the entire restoration.

Capt Chuck,

Is there a diagram of the scupper arrangement somewhere that I can look at? Do they drain through the transom or out the side?

thx

Well gebtlemen, kick me in the balls. I am glutton for punishment. After my neighbors 20 sank the other day during a rain storm, I ripped up my deck and started on a project to raise it. I'm going up almost 3 inches and putting drains in so that the scuppers are above the waterline.

Pictures will follow
