Default popping the cap on a bowrider

Hi all;

I'm looking at pulling the cap off the 1965 bowrider, to remove and replce old rotted wood under the gunwales, transom cap, and front sitting area. Looks like the cap is glassed on to the hull. Any advice? Have any of you removed the cap on the bowrider?

Steve

Steve,
Harbor Freight has a cheap air cut off wheel that would be ideal...

It has worked well for me in tight places..

Good Luck, Ken

Yepper.....as always, Ken is right! While you are there might as well get the angled grinder, some 2" or 3" 36 grit "Roloc" sanding disc and lots of sandpaper. You will be needing them.

I would think the cap is riveted on also (the 21 is and it's a 64).

Any way you cut it it will be a job.

Before you buying any power tools Steve, I own an angle grinder.

I have 4-5 of them in various flavors also

Steve I only use my finger nails on the 'good' jobs.

Finding a picture (or somebody who has taken the floor out) of one of those little boats, would be invaluable for knowing how much Hull&deck putty is under there and where its located. But then again, you might get lucky and like my boat all those joints had cracks and after you cut the rivets it will just lift out.

You might try contacting 65bowrider. She redid hers and might be able to enlighten you. Don't know how deep she had to go with hers, though.

I might try to replace the bad wood with the cap in place; looks like a tough job getting that cap off. And it looks like it is riveted to the hull too, through the rub rail. I'm going to try cutting though a length of the glass tabbing and see how that goes; I'll report back.
