Northstar/Navman 310/3100 ducer problems
I for the life of me don't understand how I can't get a fuel transducer to work more than a few outings. I know a lot of people have had issues with some fuel meters but this is a little nuts. Maybe that's why they're discontinuing them.
I started with the 210 which is the cheaper unit and went through two ducers in less than a month. Then Navico was nice enough to send me a 310 head and ducer, well same results basically. I just put this last ducer in a day before yesterday and I am burning 2.5 gals. at 43 knots basically wot , so it says. It's mounted correctly, plumbed correctly, filtered with 10 mics. Any Ideas/expierence or is it just junk with this new fuel.

Re: Northstar/Navman 310/3100 ducer problems
I cant tell you how to fix it but I will tell you that I will never buy another Navman. I had the 3100 on my 23cc and I had problems with it not reading correctly. I currently have a 2100 on my 20cc (did not buy this one it was given to me new in the box) and it works sometimes. Currently thinking about what I want to put on my 25 and I may go with the Lorance or a Flow Scan. Fuel flow meters are very useful when they are working.

Re: Northstar/Navman 310/3100 ducer problems
I've had the Navman on my boat for about 8 years. Work great for 5 of them, then started having problems the last 3. I have to keep playing with the calibration of the unit at least once a season. If not I run out of gas. Try running a set amount of fuel, Take a 5 gallon can and run it till the motor quits then read the gauge. Ajust it to the right number of gallons burned. Works most of the time on mine.
Bruce your local to me, I've seen you and your boat a few times over the summer. My shop is in Tuckahoe.

Wow that's great efficiency! You must be running a super-atomizing, dfi, diesel hybrid of sorts
I've too been using a NAVMAN and have had good results. I think they went through a period trouble prior to Navico buying them. My original unit I got from a dealer in a box that had clearly been opened and it never worked. New Brunswick Technologies replaced no questions asked. The unit should remain as vertical as possible. Take it off and blow through it. It should spin freely and whistle with little effort. If not indeed that's your problem. Also make sure its reading GPH. If in fact its set to MPG then it's probably ok. Ask me how I know...

Re: Northstar/Navman 310/3100 ducer problems
Thanks Don, shoulda said hi. I was just up the Tuckahoe and Corbin City at low tide a couple weeks ago. I fish B.L. England's discharge for stripers a fair amount.
In the next week I expect the fuel transducer will lock up and read 0 like all the other ducers. Thanks for the tip, if it does keep going I will re-calibrate it. Btw I have got to come see you in the offseason for a top but first I have to recore my fuel hatch and rebed the console.

Re: Northstar/Navman 310/3100 ducer problems
Bruce, I used to keep the Moesly right at the bridge at the place with the red roofs. It was sold and the new owners don't have any plans to do anything with the place. A good buddy of mine owns the gray house with the blue Hydra-sport tied up to the dock. Stop by if you get a chance, I've done a few tops for CSC guys.
