Installing Bracket on enclosed transom
We just got the new transom in and enclosed. I'll be ordering my bracket on Monday and wou;d like to to mount it/pre-fit every thing before we install the cap and live well that will go in the new transom. My question is roughly at what height does it need to sit above the chine?? I have a yam 250 and will be looking at a 250-300 four stroke next year.

Re: Installing Bracket on enclosed transom
Your bracket should come with specific mounting instructions, including a template. But if not, get in touch with the expert. Don Herman at Hermco. He's the moderator of this forum.

Re: Installing Bracket on enclosed transom
Whatever you do make sure you account for the curvature of the transom. Also you may consider using one intended for twin motors and have them drill out for one motor. That will give you extra flotation. Also make sure you mount it accordingly if you have a 25" or 30" shaft. 2-3 guys should be able to dry fit and mount it in about 1/2 day.

Re: Installing Bracket on enclosed transom
I'm getting one with floatation for sure, I've thought about doing what you recommended since later down the road I might weld up the holes and jump up to twins, then I wont have to eat the price of another bracket.
How do you account for the curvature of the transom? I think that it's pretty flat. The covering board is curved, but that doesnt have any thing to do with the bracket. Maybe I'm miss understanding. |
