paint products

ok i am almost to the point of painting the liner and floor in my boat. where i have repaired the floor an it is resin/fairing material. do i need to prime these areas or the hole boat? what is a good paint to use,I know there is interlux,pettit and awlgrip.What else is out there good to use? is there a good book i can buy,rent thats has good pointers on paints and what to do.

I used Sterling paint but you could use some of the other 2 part paints and do just fine. As for the method I would not skip any steps in the process patch up the holes, primer coat, one coat of paint, sand another coat of paint, sand, one coat of paint with grit. I thing the grit part on the walking surface is very forgiving to work with. I mixed both the fine and course grit together and doubled the recommended amounts of grit and I just rolled that on. Ship Shape did a program on painting the deck. You could buy that and watch it if you wanted.

thanks fello ship yeah i am getting really close.So now the hunt is on for which color i want and panit type. i am thinking light tan for the floor and white for the gullals and top cap.

I think I saw that someone here used Fabula's Signature Paint which I am considering. Looks like a lot less prep, no primer,just sanding if surface is in good condition. Also compatible with alot.Can match any color. Called him, very helpful seems doable for beginners like me. Almost seems to good to be true.
Anybody had any experience with it?

Thanks for that reply, I see you did yours in '05. Looked great, I'd be real happy with that result.
Kind of convincing me it's the way to go.
I was considering the non-skid he has, if you used it, did you mix the fine and coarse like he suggests?

Unlike the old fashion way of throwing nonskid on wet paint and then coating over. Mix the nonskid 50% coarse & 50%fine. If your using Signature Paint, the mix ratio in ounces is: 8/2/4/2 Paint/Catalyst/Thinner/Grit.
Stir often, after masking, brush on and then smooth out using the type roller pictured below. The loops float the nonskid up within the paint thus keeping it uniform.

Hint: Brush a 2'x 2' section at a time. Brush on section 1 & 2. Roll out section 1 & half 2. Brush section 3. Roll out second half of 2 and first half of section 3----> continue this process and you will not have Start/Finish lines. Cut the roller in half so you have an extra one in case you drop it in he dirt and roll out slowly to prevent splatering any grit particles

Capt Chuck: I am about a week away from painting so expect a call for a refresher course on using Sig Fin. I am now considering spraying some and would like your opinion on that option.
