Gas tank location
Hi, I posted this question on a thread I started on the performance forum, but thought it belonged here....
I've recently acquired a '69 Seacraft SF. It's a little different from what I've seen in pictures on this website in that it has no storage cutouts under the bow gunnels and has a humongous gas tank that takes up all of the space under the console including the forward seat part. I wonder if anyone knows if Seacraft did this on the early models, or if there's an abandoned tank under the deck? I can't crane my head around far enough to see that far under the deck from the rear hatches. Maybe next time it's out of the water I can peek through the garboard drain? I'd like to have an under deck tank and a smaller console if possible. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Gas tank location
Bitsamonkey, All of the pre 1970 or 71 center consoles have that above deck tank in the console. The later models have a 47 gallon tank under the deck. Also the rod cutouts in the bow came around the same time 1970 or 71 There wont be an under deck tank unless it was done since it left the factory.

Re: Gas tank location
Thanks, I always end up with oddball models of everything. Has anyone replaced the above deck tank with an under deck? If so, how big of a deal is it?

Re: Gas tank location
I'm getting ready to install a 50 gallon tank (5ft) in a 20 MA, can anyone tell me the best place to put the tank with a 140hp Suzuki? I am assuming I want to install it foward to compansate for the heavier motor. Thanks

Hey Tuna,
Love your boat name, I have an `89 20 sf and run a 96 Ocean Pro 150 @ 385 #s My tank is 3" forward of the rear in deck flange. 47 gals. Think your weight is close. GFS |

I am moving the tank 6 to 8 inches forward so I know I will have no problem with the weight. I am installing a 140 suzuki to.
