Default Long Weekend getaway

I'm thinking of surprising the wife with a long weekend getaway after the cranberry harvest. Unfortunately not for fishing. Are the Keys too far to travel for a 3-4 day jaunt from Massachusetts? Any suggestions on where to stay?

Better make it a real long weekend. Keep in mind even when you hit the Florida State line you still have 7 hours of
windshield time down I-95 and the Turnpike just to get into
the upper keys. That also depends on what time of the day
you go around Miami. If your flying, no problem.
Do you plan to tow the boat? If so from Mass. to say Islamorada your looking at 3 days of driving down.
From Florida City to Key West is approx. 135 miles on US-1
The keys this time of the year is great IMO.
If you want to go to Key West get with CSC member
joey, He is a captain in Key West.
Go ahead and surprise her with a week get away.
Let us know what you plan. I will be happy to let you in
on my 53 years of experience going down there.

BTW, the Overseas Highway from Miami to Key West is only a 2 lane road and it usually takes about 3 hours to run the 135 miles, just a heads up!

Nestor, It may have been awhile since you have been down.
They are in the process of widening from Jew Fish Creek
north. For the most part US-1 and most of the bridges are
4 lane all the way to Key West. Just do not speed anywhere
through the Keys.....

Well, you're right, it's been a while (can't believe I've lived in Miami for almost 10 years!). So the 2 lane road from Florida City to Key Largo is being widened? That is great news since the early Saturday morning traffic jams on the way to Islamorada were horrible!

I'll be on the road Saturday AM to Key Largo to see a bot there with Jorge, hope it pans out!

Thanks for all the info. If we go it'll be on a plane to Miami then a rental car to the Keys. I've never been to the keys, but if I go there won't be fishing on this trip. I wonder if I'll go nutty not fishing just staring at the water, looking at boats, etc....I'll probably get alot of "e'hmmm honey I'm over here".
Thanks again for the info.
