seacraft sceptre
I am looking at an 82 seacraft sceptre. The transom has been redone and a bracket added. Will the bracket create a bad ride on the boat since the boat was originally set up for outboards? Also is it difficult to convert the sceptre to a center console? Also is the 82 a good year Seacraft, I do not want to buy trouble?
Thanks Loni

Re: seacraft sceptre
I have a 73 Tsunami (early Sceptre) with a bracket that has a fantaastic ride. I wouldn't be worried about the bracket. I would still take it for a ride before buying. If it wasn't set up properly I suppose it could cause a problem.

Re: seacraft sceptre
My dad's Sceptre is an '82 and is built like a tank. I wouldn't worry about quality issues with that year. I don't see why the bracket would negatively effect performance/handling. Not sure if you're considering lost2a6's Sceptre for sale on this site, but he has an '82 with a bracket. You could ask him about performance. Converting to a CC could be somewhat involved if you have the seat boxes molded in to the liner. You would also have to create a way to route cables to the engines from the CC. Remember, the Savage model is a Sceptre with a CC and no windshield, so it can be done.

Re: seacraft sceptre
If you're looking at something with seatboxes and are thinking of taking them out, I might be interested in them. My Tsunami just has 4 pedestal seats. I'd like to put the pedestals on boxes to get some cockpit storage. Right now everything is stuff in to a live well. That's not a big deal to me because I never keep anything but, I'd like to use the space a little better...ie add the boxes and get rid of the well.

Re: seacraft sceptre
1973Tsunami,
Just a comment about those seat boxes - they are molded into the liner so they would need to be cut out of the donor boat and glassed into place on your boat. I wanted to mention that just case you've never seen them before and thought they might just bolt to the floor. If I can get over to my dad's boat in the next couple days, I'll take a picture of them for you. |

Re: seacraft sceptre
A bolt in solution would certainly be easier but I was thinking that if you were cutting those out anyway, it would be a little easier to fit those in than to build something from scratch. I could be wrong though. I don't mess with fiberglass work on my own anyway so it would depend on the opinions of who ever I hire to do it. I don't have the skills to attempt this myself or the space to do it. I was thinking it my be cheaper to glass these in then to build something from scratch.
