Bimini Bound

Many years ago I sailed over to Bimini during spring break with my school's sailing club. Always wanted to return and always looked for a powerboat that could get me there - which in part lead me to SeaCrafts. Don't know if this has ever been brought up before, but I think a floatilla of SeaCrafts crossing the stream would be an adventure I think many might enjoy, not to mention the fishing, partying and storytelling to follow. I've heard the gulfstream can be fairly flat during summer months and is just a few hours to cross. Anyone hold the same interest?

I would be intrested on joining a group for a crossing.I have made many and it does get calm in the summer.But it can kick up and be nasty as well.I go over a few times a year and on weekends when nothing is happening i end up on the bank with no plans of doing so.A few budwisers later of course! RC, Sounds good to me. I've been going over for a while now. There's a place south of Old Bahama called Buddle Bay. They have rooms for rent and the island atmosphere. All you need to bring is a case of frozen chickens and a couple cases of Coors Light for Vida and the locals.

Great idea! We could get some great publicity and posibly sponserships from an event like that. You might be able to combine it with classic whaler and/or classic Mako to get a good number of boats. Some fun...

Otto, Plus for those who don't have a boat here, they could fly into Freeport and take a taxi to the gathering.

It sounds good, I suggest you get in touch with the Bahamas Tourism Board, they hold a crossing a few times a year and will come to us here and hold a one day session to fill out all the documents and get ready for the crossing. I saw it on Ship Shape TV last year but can't seem to find it now. I just saw a web page that suggested Homestead Bayfront Park as the best jumping off point to the islands, after all, you'll be traveling with the Gulf Stream, not against. If y'all go, I need to know when so I can ask for vacation days ASAP.

Bimini would be a great place to travel this time of year, a friend of mine just got back a week or so ago and caught loads of grouper, mutton snapper and some kings. I am thinking about heading over memorial day weekend, and I am always looking for some excuses to go again.

Memorial day? Do you have accomodations in Bimini or do you overnight in the boat? I would be interested to accompany you if you don't mind, I've never done the crossing and it's always better to follow someone the first time around. Let me know so I can prepare and thanks!
