yamaha 130

When I finish my boat (which will be a while from now) I'm thinking about replacing the 1981 merc 225 with a yamaha 130. What kind of fuel economy/top end speed could you expect from a yamaha 130 on a 20ft seacraft?

Hammer or Mark ( or anyone else that had a 130) . . . what kind of top end speed or fuel economy did you guys see with this engine?

With a Honda 130, I get 42 mph lightly loaded @ 5800 rpms.

I'm getting about 38mph @ 5200rpm. cruise 28mph @ 3400rpm and 7-8 GPH on my navman. Probably could use a different prop and the carbs could use adjustment.

I never checked mine as to actual speed on the GPS, and it was nearly immediately taken off my 20' to put on my 18' and then sold a week later. In spite of not checking the actual specs, it was plenty fast enough and got the boat up on plane quickly. It would be at the top of my list if I was going to go the straight 2-stroke route ever again.

With 6 people, 2 coolers and 1/2 tank of gas, I had Mark's boat ("pre-Mark") on plane WOT at 34mph on the handheld gps. Unfortunately fuel economy was lacking since we ran out of fuel trying to go 24 miles roundtrip in Biscayne Bay. Reading the GPs was one of the last things I remember that night...I guess that wide open is not the most economical cruise speed. I think thats a good engine choice if you are going "old school". Boat previously had a 140 johnson on it (V-4) that might have seen 40 mph on a good day, but drank more fuel than the yammie

Mark, that boat has led an incredible life, and now gets reincarnated to do it all over again....should treat you very well for the rest of your life...summers in the abacos, stored inside a warehouse for hurricanes, ample supplies of adult beverages spilled in the bilge, race comittee for sailboating's super rock-stars, it even got to greet the Whitbread R-T-W fleet in the middle of the night 25 miles offshore when they visited south florida....Kenny's son always had some hottie aboard....on and on...sneaking up on semi-smart bonefish will be a great retirement.
