Default Auuminum fuel tank encapsulated in fiberglass

I bought a 1974 23' Scepter with a aluminum fuel tank encapsulated in fiberglass. I asked a local fiberglass guy who has a good reputation what he thought, he said if he bought a new aluminum tank he would encapsulate it in fiberglass. As far as I know this is the original tank. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Considering that a properly made and installed aluminum gas tank can last for 30 plus years without a problem I really dont see the need. I coated mine with coal tar epoxy and I thought that was a bit of over kill. Encapsulating it in fiberglass seems a bit extreme to me... kinda like wearing three condoms when you only need one.
