Default New England Get together re-visited

How does the weekend of August 8-11 sound? This is the weekend of the Newport Jazz festival.

I was thinking about some fishing on Sat 10th AM, Anchoring/Rafting up together and listening to the Music for a few hours in the Mid afternoon and then a BBQ dinner at my home on Sat PM???

Sunday would be up in the air, I figured we could make plans at the BBQ on Sat eve.

I hope many of you guys will visit. I have ample secure storage at my home for 10+ boats.

The only issue with this weekend are the hotel rates. After calling some local hotels the rates are from $100 to 400+ per evening. These are hotels in the Newport area and they seem to jack the rates up for the Jazz festival. The nice thing about RI, the smallest state, is you do not have to stay in Newport and will still be able to remain near by.

Please tell me what you think and if you would be able to attend si I can start working on logistics and all the other fun stuff

Jason,
That weekend works for me, I'll be there! I bought me an F150 last month so I'm good to go with a tow vehicle. As far as accommodations, we'll most likely stay in 'Gansett at my sister-in-law's, but if we can leave the boat at your house overnight that would be . I'd rather not contend with weekend Newport traffic with a boat in tow after having consumed a few beers at the BBQ .

Some ideas for events:
-Jason's "How-to-rebuild an SC" clinic
-The First Annual CS.com "Show Us Yer Boats" Parade (this could rival Barrington's July 4th parade )
-JohnR's official CS.com unveiling of the new rig(hopefully Jason's unveiling occurs then too)

I'm sure some more ideas will come to me.

Let me know what I can do to help.

By the way, that Saturday is August 9.

Hei Jason-

Did someone say classicmako.com gathering at the Goldfarbs? Didn't think your dad would let you drive his 19'

Seriously, count me in too. If we need more boats, I always can haul down my boat. O, if you're tight for space I'll be happy to leave my boat at home and jump on board with someone else.

Scott- yeah the 9th I am still working on that addition thing! I hope we get enough boats for a nice raft up at the festival!!

Hooper-of course all are welcomed. I hope this would be a fun event for all as Newport has a ton to offer with Beaches, shopping, site seeing and more.

Ed- Space won't be an issue, I should also have a Suzuki mechanic on call should we need anything

I'm hoping to be there too...That way if you have a prize for the oldest Sea Craft I'm sure to win, can anyone beat a 1967 19' . The only problem may be is how the wife will be feeling at that time with the baby due on Sept 8th . Could leave the boat home and tow the mobile shop up and spend the weekend building custom T-tops for all of those topless Sea Crafts.... :eek

PipeDreams - Congrats! First one? Or 8th?

Jason - sounds good! Will be raftin' no problem... Yes - wives and SO's are encouraged! The wives are allowed to beat up Trayder for starting the site that has cost the loss of new kitchens across America while the rest of us laugh about it ...

Bass fishing isn't the best at that time but it's not bad either. A couple boats can head over to Cuttyhunk or Block depending on the AM bite. And perhaps an afternoon, prefestival bluefish bite in Narr Bay before hand. Topwater 5-8 pound bluefish exploding all over is a blast for everyone, including the wives and kids! Some of the best topwater action around starts just about that time of year.

We'll see how many boats can make it (Scott - I'm still shooting for a MSBA Tourney debut) and the rafting would be a ball!

Don, you bringing the wife? I was thinking about bringing the family but with a 6 week old baby I kinda don't think so.
Now I thinking of going by myself Let me know what your plans are, maybe we can cruze up together.

Hey guys

How long of a run is it from Cuttyhunk to Newport where the festivities are? I trust my engine more than my trailer and may consider a run from Bass River, along the Elizabeths and across to Newport.

I have never made that run before, how are the waters? I am sure that if I could get underway before the SW winds come up, it might not be too bad?
