I'm just wondering here....but...
Looking for an honest opinion about market value...
I have an '83 SeaCraft center console, some of you may have seen the pics. there is a nice custom hard T-Top and a full compliment of modern electronics ie, chartplotter, radar, FF, Temp, etc...there are outriggers, sampson post, and a soft sided lift raft. It needs nothing at all as it was completely rewired in 2002. Plus, I repowered and have 58hrs on a 2003 Evinrude 225 with 2.5yrs on the warranty. No worries there. The reason I am even entertaining the idea of a sale is that if the money on the sale of the SC was right I am considering building a downeast single screw... but I need to do reasonably well on the sale of this boat. I am interested to hear what the experts on CSC.com have to say, as many have been in the market recently. In November, 2001 I paid 20K with the Mariner that was on it, some of you heard my ranting when it blew up on me 6 months later... thus, the new 'Rude. I have always wanted to build a downeaster (a 30' H&H or a South Shore 30) and I have been knocking the idea around for quite sometime, even before I bought the SC. For charters in this area, a 23 SC is tough.. but I have been making a go of it. Can anyone from the P'Nut gallery throw some ideas at me? I am aware that a boat needs an engine so, I cannot simply add 15K to what I paid for it because it has new power, but what about have of that? I currently have it insured at 26K believing that if I had to sell it today, that may be the best I could hope for (I may be cutting my own throat by saying that on this site....). I am interested in your thoughts!!!!! -Hooper |

Re: I'm just wondering here....but...
Hooper,
I think you're pretty close. I priced out 2003 Ficht's at (let's say) $15,000 installed. With the remaining warantee, it's the same as new. For the sake of conversation let's say it's value is $10,000. The boat, assuming very good condition (no hidden major issues like fuel tank, rot, etc.), including electronics, t-top, outriggers, etc. is probably worth $13,500 to $16,000 or more. I think the key is finding a knowledgable buyer that wants a 23' SeaCraft CC with this work already done. The final upside on value will come down to condition. A smart SC buyer would have to take a hard look at yours. Regards, Otto

Re: I'm just wondering here....but...
From talking to other people on this site that are completely redoing older SC's and knowing what a total refit can run, it is certainly worth quite a bit.
However, it will take a buyer well versed in what a thorough refit costs in order to get serious money out of a 20 year old boat, regardless of the hardware on it. I guess it gets back to the disparity between what it's worth, and what you can get for it. Some of the pricey offerings on boattrader have been there nearly a year, whereas a few of the ones that were obviously refurbished very well sold for rather high prices (that blue 1969 20' CC that was up for $19K for instance). Good luck- |
