Default Sand paper

Is there an actual paper designed for fiberglass... The deck that I did about two year ago is harder than a ministers you know what...was wondering if there is such a thing specifically for fiberglass sanding....

None that I know of but it helps if you spray the surface with dish soap and water. The grit will last longer.

There is different types of paper and grits. Alumina oxide and such other types as well. I found the more expensive paper seems to last longer as the grit dose not come off as easily. Seems like they all clog up bad. Wet sanding with finer grits always seems to help with the clogging and extends the life out. The paper backed stuff don't like the water but the 3m plastic backing will last much longer when wet. Keeping a slight water flow across the surface while sanding was the best thing I could find to do to stop the clogging. I would be curious to hear from the pros and see what brad papers and types seemed to work best for them tho.....

Here on the beach in NJ we have fiberglass decks and roofs and over time, usually 12+ year they will require a "recolor" with is basically grinding off the gelcoat and reapplying. We use 24 grit sanding discs on a grinder with a plastic backing pad. Ill try to attach photos.

As well they make them in 40 grit for less aggressive applications. The photo of that deck is after 18 years, thats why its not very clean looking

I think 3M makes these as well, they do a great job removing but if you use them be careful and don't stop moving the grinder. It can't damage fast!
