Default Hobie Power Skiff

Hi, I had heard that the Hobie Power Skiff was a Potter design. Anyone have any information about this. Thanks JC

I bought one of these boats new in 1984. Kept it for 22 years and recently gave it to one of our boys. This boat had the "delux" console that you had to step into. A rounded affair with the seat attached. You could also order one with a more conventional square console with separate seat. The boat was designed by Phil Edwards who was a designer for Hobie boats, the catamaran builders. This boat was well build and finished and extremely light, but it is also a "small" 15'er. Mine was powered first by a omc 2 cyl 50, then a 3 cyl omc 60. Boat handles almost like a big PWC, in many ways. The lineup also offered a 13/14' skiff but i dont think i have ever seen one. It's wet like a PWC too. Self bailing. I don't think they ever figured out how to market it successfully. Google Hobie Power Skiff and you will find more info.

Thanks for the info. I did some checking and according to this article Bill Potter designed the hull. http://www.sportfishingmag.com/techn...sea-21436.html

LOL, resurrected from the dead threads file...

Unaware of Potter designing the hull, but he did a lot of customization on the Hobie skiff. He built a side console, a rear insert with a bench seat and live well, and a forward casting platform that covered an 18 gallon tank. The molds for them were perfect, but he only built a few before Hobie dropped the project. I had one for a few years, wish I never sold it..

Some friends and I made a scuba run from Lake Worth to West End back in '84 on a dead calm summer day, and one of the four boats was a Hobie Power Skiff with a 65 hp Mercury on the back. I drove a 13' Whaler with a 35 Johnson, and the other two boats were both 20' Seafari's.

What I remember about that Power Skiff was that it could wet it's passengers in a dead calm!
