Default Need Opinions ?

I am getting ready to glass my floor in.

Before I do that I want to attached some wooden cleats to hold my side panels and transom enclosure.

So the question is: Will using epoxy (thickened with cabasol) be good enough? Or should I add some mechanical fasteners like SS tee nuts. I will not be tabbing these in with tape.

Or is this over kill?

Let hear it from those that have been there

My experience with epoxy for cleats/etc, is the material your bonding to will break/fail before the connection/epoxy will assuming the surfaces are prepped and cleand correctly.

One thought on the thickener/cabosol is this creates a VERY hard/brittle mixture. I have moved to wood flour instead of cabosol for most of what I am doing now. It is just as strong, but is more flexible, and in boats, I am finding flexible is a good thing, expecially if your connecting to flexible surfaces such as fiberglass. Just my 2 cents.

Good point. I think in the back of my mind that is why I was contemplating using mechanical fastener.

Has anybody used the west system Six 10 in the cartridge ? I wonder if this would be flexible?
