Default Cooling system questions with pictures???

the Tsunami I am looking to purchase has some (putting it lightly!!)issues with the engine I am a little concerned about.
First two Pictures....shows hole in bellhousing for starter..but starter already in rear of bellhousing..do I just need a bellhousing inspection plate on here??!!

Second Picture...bottom right of picture..notice the hose...cant figure out where this hose attaches to!!!...Is this engine missing cooling system parts etc??? Raw water pump is there etc..this hose is coming from transmission oil cooler tube.

Any help appreciated

The hole you have is where the starter on my 23 Inboard is mounted. If your starter is mounted elsewhere I would block that hole off to keep debris and excessive moisture out.

The hose is interesting, I don't see a heat exchanger anywhere on the engine. If there is one the trans cooler attaches to that. If there isn't one, I guess your entire system is cooled using raw water. If this is the case the raw water needs to make a loop from the pump to the exhaust.

If this is a project, I would consider the heat exchanger route. You will have less problems with antifreeze running through the engine instead of raw water. Just my opinion.

Tucker..if I were to move starter up to the existing hole and block of lower hole where starter currently is mounted..will this make engine turn in different direction(excuse my ignorance here)???. I probably will need to get different starter as well..looks like the flywheel sits farther back..will deal with that when I make the purchase..Cant keep going to the guys house etc. I also started threadover at boatered.com to get advice as well!
Also could you post pictures of your engine so I can get an idea of how the hoses would be routed for cooling?? I tried searching for diagrams etc..might have to visit the local library this weekend!!!

I don't know if I would move the starter unless you are uncomfortable with it placement in the bilge. The direction shouldn't change unless the starter bolts to the opposite side of the flywheel.

Hmm, a picture of mine might be tough - I'll look and see but I am wrapped up for the winter.

This is that V Drive isn't it!
I hope you bought it - that would be WAY COOL!!!

Anyway I sent you the only picture I could find right now to the address in the profile. I'll keep looking for a better one.

Tucker, that is a V-drive. No do not reloacte starter, that is for reverse rotation. From the pictures the hose end looks close to the screen from the raw water inlet. Which is the supply to cool the engine and trans. George

George...
thanks for the heads up!!!!!!..I am not going to remove starter..going to utilize bellhousing inspection plate for bellhousing hole. Upon my 4th inspection of boat..you are correct on hose placement. Tucker--got your picture..
Thanks to all
-Fred

Ken , if you have a need for speed as some on this site have . I must tell you, your V-drive set up will not be as fast as an outboard with the same Hp. rating. You will find other good things with a V drive setup. Life is full of compromise's. Not all are bad. George.

Project is still moving along...I basically donated the boat to a good friend of mine........who had a very nice 23 Sceptre v drive inboard that he sold. I will get some new pictures up of progress....not much though..he has just been filling more holes/fairing etc....did not realize it was so much work..so he is more set up to complete it....engine on hold for right now..due to the fact that he wants to seal up all holes to prevent any further water intrusion from rain. I am currently wrapped up in a 19'6 shammy cuddy that only needs the vortec 4.3 installed ..
