Default Livewell not draining

My live well in my 1986 23'cc does not drain when sitting the floor floods. Anyone know a good remedy. My transom is enclosed and overflow drain was put back in original place. Really do not care for square livewell in floor but not ready to do anything about it right now. Is there a checkvalve I could put in the overflow line or better question would it work. Or maybe a macerater pump in line.

Could be some little bait fish is wedged somewhere in the overflow line going out the transom. Or you don’t have a gasketed hatch door that locks tight. Or a live bait while swimming around in the tank is getting stuck against the over flow outlet inside the tank. All 3 things have happened to me.

All though I have a Potter hull I moved my livewell tank where yours is.

There is other possibility: if the over flow happens when current is pushing against the stern of the boat which restricts the amount of water that can travel out the transom.
Backing up can also push water up the overflow hose, or a air bubble trapped in the overflow line. Its possible the overflow hose is to small in diameter or the boat is to stern heavy.

I have just bought an'85 SF that appears to have the same problem. Whenever I run the livewell water just flows onto the deck when the hatch is opened and seeps out as well when itis closed (latched down). My drain and overflow lines empty out through the same through-hull fitting in the transom (there is a valve that can switch the mode of drainage). My feeling is that I may have to open a larger through hull drain for the overflow in the transom that is separate from the drain line. Thother possibility is to enlarge the existing through hull.

I think it's an issue of not having enough overflow volume getting out at the proper rate. Perhaps this is what you are faced with as well.

Anyone have thoughts or ideas on what would work best?

Thanks.

Ok Guys this is how I set up my well.

Left Side/ Port well overflow drain 1 1/2" fitting
Middle is the boat bilge.
Right side is well drain.

Overflow Well drain and live well scoop.

End of Day well drain.

I use a Bomar hatch door has a good gasket system in it.

This is basically what I have except my overflow drain is installed a little higher. All my lines are the same size as yours. Also my lid is factory SeaCraft and does not seal tight. The overflow has a 5 inch drop minimum. My boat sets a little higher at the stern now with the bracket than it did without. Waterline is at the bottom of scuppers. Guess the boat is lighter without all the wet wood.I never tried to use the livewell when I got the boat I had enough water through scuppers. From looking at yours I don't understand why its not working. Thanks

Hi Reel Toy

The center of my overflow line is approx 4 to 5 inches from the top of the tank.
I never have a overflow problem sitting still but when running 30 MPH with the pump on I need to close the hatch lid or more water is coming in than going out.
The only time I ever have a overflow is if a bait fish gets sucked against the overflow line so I did this.

One question how many gallon per hr pump are you using to fill the Tank??

Another option we used years ago on the infloor was set the pump to pump OUT - regulate the water coming in and you can adjust the water height. Comes in fine getting it out is the issue so pump it.

Hi GatorDoc

Here is the picture of my scupper we talked about. My water line is just below the top corner of my trim tab bracket.
