Fuel sender corrosion
Pulled my hatch for the first time in a year, new sender back then - it had a wad of white corrosion like a battery terminal, big wad - can I put grease on it or maybe one of those felt things??? The other one didn't have any but it broke too, not electrical enough to know what caused it either

I use Fluid Film. Stuff is amazing for preventing corrosion. I think it's better than Boeshield T-9. It has a waxy, paraffin-like consistency.

Just be sure all electrical and ground connections are tended to before putting anything on it to prevent corrosion.

I was going to clean it up the reason for pulling it was it was acting goofy - there was a separte bare cooper wire from the tank to the sending housing, could that be some sort of extra ground and its not comnnected good enough??
It has nothing to do with the gauge wiring at all. Frank it has to be something I can actually find - I only have Advance-NAPA and walmart to chose from

Old sending unit quit when I started taking it apart so just bought a new one and cleaned it up and sprayed some good stuff on it.

Egg,
That bare copper wire sounds to me like a crude way of bonding the tank...which AIN'T the right way to do it! For the tank to be bonded correctly, the wire (10GA Green) needs to run from the tank to the fill, then to DC ground... |

That heavy cooper wire seems to be attached to the tank near the sender, its uninsulated but under a bit of foam and was under one of the screws of the sender.
New sender works fine as I tested it yesterday and just sprayed the crap out of the sender top with a CRC product. I sprayed this stuff on my helm seat track 4 months ago since it was very stiff - the tension adjuster knob is gone - 4 months later every time I accerate I acceralte in reverse to the back of the track - kinda like going to the carnaval
