Honda 225 on my Seacraft 23WA
I was pleasantly surprised today with the performance of the new 225 Honda. I just put on a Northstar F210 fuel flow guage and today was the 1st time using it. I had been expecting much higher fuel usage than what showed up. I ran at 3600-3700 RPM and was traveling at 26-28 MPH with a fuel consumption of 4.8/4.9 GPH. Man! What a difference that is compared to my old Merc 200 HP carbed engine.Even with gas prices down, I paid $1.89/9 to day, that will definately help pay for the new engine much sooner than expected.

Re: Honda 225 on my Seacraft 23WA
Gary - I don't mean to rain on your parade . . . but 4.9gph doesn't sound right. I don't think your gauge is calibrated properly. 5 - 5.6 mpg is a little too good to be true for a 23. Strick's 23 with the 250 suzuki was just touching 3mpg flat seas. His numbers seemed to be ballpark for large 4 strokes on a 23. I just don't think that the honda is 80 - 90% more efficent.
Most 23's on Honda's site are posting around 2.8 - 3.0 mpg b/w 3500 - 4000rpm. http://www.honda-marine.com/pdfs/pro...0-%20BF225.pdf http://www.honda-marine.com/pdfs/pro...0-%20BF225.pdf |

Re: Honda 225 on my Seacraft 23WA
Gary,
You have probably already done it but the Northstar fuel meters should be calibrated after hook up. They claim 5% variance out of the box and can be tuned to 2%. Common way to dial it in is to run directly from known quantity like a portable 6 gallon tank. And then follow page 7 calibration instructions. Also Northstar suggests that the flow meter is positioned vertically, and that the gauge is at least 12" from compass and 20" from any radio. You might also check to see if it was reading Imperial gallons rather than US gallons (also page 7). If that's the case you'd be getting 5.9 us gph for 4.5 mpg - still pretty darn good. If all is well then you're gonna be one happy fisherman at the fuel well

Re: Honda 225 on my Seacraft 23WA
I will have to play with the setting to be sure. According to total usage I used 7.3 gal for around a 30 mile trip +-. I know w/ my old Merc, I would have used at least twice that much. I don't have a 6 gallon tank, I guess I will have to keep watching, obviously much better than before. I am fairly sure it is set for US gallons. I tried to make sense of the manual and it is difficult for me to understand what they are saying/doing. Thanks for the heads up.
