Default Cutting trim tabs to fit Seafari?

I found some Bennett trim tabs for a bargain price, but they're 27" wide (9" chord) and total overkill for the Seafari. Question is can I cut them down to 12 or 14" or will that mess'em up?
V351 pump unit and rams and wiring are all good condition.

Hi McGillicuddy;

I worked for Bennett as a account manager I would not recommend doing that. Go on Ebay and type in Bennett Trim Tabs and find some that will fit. If the tabs you are buying are New you can trade them out with Bennett no charge.

Roger that Fellow-ship, in these tough economic times where the 401K has been whittled to a mere 401, I felt I had to ask.

Just out of curiosity what are the potential ill effects of this poor man's tab strategy?

First off that Stainless is hart to cut, then you got the placement of the actuator in the center of the tab and then you got on 12x12 tabs on both sides a 90 degree bend for strength which you would loose. If the tabs are new email Thomas and he will exchange them for new. If they are used maybe and that’s a maybe he could exchange them for used “if he has them” used plates. For me go to Ebay and you will find some cheep there.

gill if there is a sheet metal shop near you they can handle what u want. I dont know alot about tabs but i know sheet metal as I am a union tinknocker. What you would have to have done would be have both ends sheard off to the desired width plus the width of the flange. Then have the 90's rebent on the ends. It is a shame that you live so far from me as I could do this at home/work depending on the gauge of stainless. Good luck John.
