Default 23' cc: move the battery?

let's try again...
I've set out building new center deck plates on my 1974 23' cc.... the original 3/8" balsa core is underspec for today's standards and after 30 yrs - these things were totally delaminated and full of rotten, wet balsa. so 4 ply's DB1708 around 3/4 balsa makes some nice stiff floors.

and I'm on the after-most deck plate - the wide one with the 2 battery inspection rounds port and stbd. "while I'm at it"...does anyone else see anything wrong with having the batteries in the bildge? I know some of you moved them up to in the sceptre... but I dont really have that option here. maybe move them into the console? with the floor is a bit low to the WL, it would be nice to have a bildge sealed up and water-tight. but then I would have to move the oil reservoir too...

anyone have any suggestions or experience on this?

thanks again
