GPS
I recently aquired a Garmin GPSMAP 180. It is an older model but the price was great!(free) However it needs a new internal battery to make it work, anyone have any thoughts on getting a new battery for this older GPS? Thanks

Re: GPS
A friend of mine used an old Garmin xx48 handheld to plan a hiking trip across Great Britain. He had had it for years and carried is a backup for his installed unit on his Island Gypsy 32. He sent his back to garmin and they did it for short money. But he did not take the way points he had entered over the years and he lost those in the process.
It did not have the charting/map capability of your 180 and not having the waypoint lat/lon #'s he was kind of out of luck in recovering them, but with the charting, you should be able to re-enter them when you get your unit back from Garmin, IF you make a list of any L/L #'s before you ship it to them. That is if you can still bring them up under external power prior to sending it out ot Garmin. By the way, Garmin turned it around pretty quick and you remind me I have to do the same thing to my Garmin GPS III. Good luck and be well.

Re: GPS
Thanks for the information, I'll try to get hold of garmin and see if they will fix. Hopefully it will be a good spring and I can take the shrink wrap off the boat and get going! 25-30 degrees is getting old............fast!
