Minor correction - I think Carl said the 21 was the better boat, since he was talking about the 23 mold being from the 21. As good as the 20 is, it's just not in the same league as the 23 OR the 21! If you study the 21' hull and the 23' you will notice that the panel config. is different. 2 things i noticed right off were; the steps between the panels are deeper on the 21' and the chine (spray chine) doesn't exist on the 21' in the very front of the 21', while on the 23' it wraps around the bow to the bow ring. There is a quote somewhere I read, from Mr. Moesly talking about the chine/rail causing the hulls re-entry into the water to slap or pound. I also noticed that the center panels/keel on the 21' seem more agressive than the 23'. I bet there are many more performance enhancing-technical nuances of this 21' hull we may not be aware of. IMO I don't think "they" just extended the mold 2 feet, there appear to be other changes to the mold.

Hey fellows, I just saw a post on CSC regarding the delightful luncheon we enjoyed in Jupiter on December 15th with other SeaCraft owners. I would like to clear up a quote. I was asked to discus a few defferent models of SeaCrafts.
The "21" was a rough, tough boat for off-shore work that can carry a heavy load in high seas with very good speed. The "19" Bow Rider, the "20" Center consol and the Cuddy Cabin were designed for coastal and bay work. The "20" was a modified "19" hull with advance design characteristics. The "23" models were desigtned after I sold and left the company. They were basically a "21" bottom stretched out and the freeboard lowered. I had a demo ride in rough water a couple of years after the boat hit the market. The sales/demo driver asked me what I thought about the boat. My reply was "there are a couple of things I would have done differently". He came back with "that may be so, but it is so much better than any thing else on the market". Funny things happen when you stretch out a hull or change things on the bottom. It can be a gain in some ways and a loss in others. A good big boat can mostly out perform a little boat. Foot for foot, I like the "21" A boat is like a wife. The one that catches your eye and makes you the happiest is the one for you. Cheers, Carl |
