New transom went from a 16 degree to 13.5
So I poured my transom with arjay and it went well but as I’m finishing the fairing and pulled out the carpenters square for one last check before ordering my bracket I got a measurement of 3.5 and before it was 4” kinda weird, thinking maybe the heavy motor pulling on the week transom gave me a incorrect reading ,however I’ve read that the 20’ has a 16 degree transom. Any insight would be great .

Potter 20 should be about 12 degrees. Bulge from the Arjay pour could be affect your reading.

I think you are confusing the deadrise (roughly 16 degrees on a 20 seacraft) with the transom angle (12 or 13 degrees)

Well the 3.5 would be 14 degrees and the 4" would be 16 degrees. Is the transom still flat all the way across?

My previous 20' Seafari , a '72 outboard model, had a 14 degree transom, as measured in several places.

The transom has a slight bow to it , probably from the arjay . All good now little grinding and a little fairing and she’s good to go , just got back from a&j marine in Miami and the bracket is on order. Thanks guys

The bracket on my 20 has about a 3/16" gap at each outer edge. There is a slight crown on mine from the big clamps I used. The weight of them pulled a slight bow in the transom. Now when I do one I always use a stright edge and try to run it horizontally side to side to keep it stright. I ended up using silicon and fileted the seem on my bracket to clean it up. The 2/3s in the middle pulled tight but about a foot on each end had a little gap but it was just where the swim platform meet the transom so no big deal. Cant even tell it after it was dressed up.
