Hermco Splashwell Mold
Not sure if Don still lurks here so any members keep in touch with him? I cannot find someone to build a splashwell for under $500, so it’s just sitting. It’s probably one of the nicest molds I’ve ever seen. Thought he may like to have it back if he is still in operation. Any thoughts?

Is this for a 20sf or 20MA? Did you see fishstretcher is making one from MDF.

If you are looking for a 20MA, let me know.
I am getting there. Looks like vacuum bagged glass/epoxy prepreg is what I will be doing. Maybe with a lip of nidacore or divinycel.

No, I’m sorry guys, this is Hermco original splashwell design, I believe, for a 20 Seafari or Scepter, but may have also fit 23’s. Not exactly what sure what I have but it was going in the dumpster prior to his reopening.
My 1979 MA has the original splashwell that you are designing a mold for now. You could have borrowed mine also. But it is cut out for an old “Tower of Power”, I assume. Custom trimmed with 3/4” striped garden hose!!! Yes, in New England, pronounced Str-pid, and definitely not two “p”’s. Vezo.

Well, I went straight to the horses mouth. Spoke with Don today, he is closing shop on May 1st due to losing his location, and in his own words, “I am toast”. Disappointing at best. He has no interest in selling the molds simply because he does not believe anyone could figure out how to build them correctly. After spending ten years building, mounting and rigging for Bill Potter, he decided to take out a loan and spend the last ten years trying to maintain a business. And yes, the molds will be going in a dumpster.
He also told me that he designed and built the mold I have for guys like us pretty much as a favor, and the orders never came. The only time he laughed during our 5 or 6 minute conversation was in the beginning when I offered it back to him, explaining I couldn’t get someone local to build one for $500. He found it funny and said, “I sold them for $200 for the guys and never made a dime with that mold”! End of an era I guess. Michael.

Splashwell
Think I paid Seamark (Potter's company after SeaCraft) $300 for the splashwell for my '76 Seafari in the early 80's. Believe his literature mentioned Hermco at that time. I wanted to keep seas out of the boat and young kids in a seat and out of the steering linkage grease. Adding a shelf to it has proved helpful as a seat when at rest and supporting a ski or wakeboard when putting slippery stuff on the bindings.
