Repower question
Hi all.Happy New Year. I am looking for advise on repowering 1985 23 ft cc. Reg. transom. No bracket.Currentlly running a pair of 150 Evinrude 2 strokes.. They run great but it's time. Two 4 strokes to heavy. Thinking about single 250hp . Not sure if Ill be happy after running twins. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Now you're talking!! Your wallet will thank you for a single 250 to 300 hp four stroke vs. most any twins! And your boat's performance will be very happy!

Less drag, less maintenance cost, less fuel and with the stellar reliability of modern outboards you won't need to worry about a thing. My last 250 4 stoke lasted 11 years of offshore trips without a hitch and is probably still providing service in Mexico.

i am on 12 years of a 2005 Verado. I maintain it mostly myself meticulously. You may need to consider a postive float bracket with a heavy 4s and as much weight forward. maybe not though. def trim tabs. many factors. My boats prior owner moved the 130 gallon gas tank forward right up against the bow in deck hatch/hold (not the raised deck but immediately down from that so 2nd hatch/hold really). and my 2 batteries are under the console which helps...
But yeah single 4s > twins all day long. and sea tow in case.

I run a single 250 Merc Optimax Proxs on my 25 Rampone. 3.0 mpg at cruise of 34mph, top speed of 46mph. Lighter than any 4 stroke and better hole shot. Plus they cost less. Put 2200 hours on my last one, and have 850 on this one with no issues on either. It would be perfect for a 23 Seacraft.

I Repowered my 1974 23SF with a F300 Yamaha and raised the transom to 30". Had a custom 120 gallon fuel tank made then mounted the batteries and UFlex power assist steering under the console. Haven't ran it yet still finishing final rigging and prep. Can't wait to see what she does. Good luck!!

My first choice was to go with twin 150 4 strokes on a raised 30" transom. The guys at Suzuki told me flat out I was wasting my money and should just hang a 300 on there. 250 hours later and I have had zero trouble with it except the time my 15 year old son popped off the kill switch by accident in the tower and attempted to give me a heart attack until I figured it out......

Sandy,
Are you looking for a pair of Rudes? I might be getting rid of mine. |
