How does everyone get away with not sanding the paint or gelcoat before the kiwi grip application? I've put it on scuffed glass and sanded primer but never mirror finished topsides and expected it to work

All it needs is a little "tooth" to bond. We just hand scuff it with 220, Sand it just enough to remove the gloss. I dropped dive weight on my deck once and it chipped up the KG. The KG actually pulled up the topcoat from the epoxy primer ! Repair is as simple as opening the can a dabbing it with a small brush
