Default Transom finish work

Trying to plan ahead i dont know if i am going to use the old skin from my transom or lay up all new stuff. Whatever i do, does anyone have any tips on the finish work on the outside before gelcoating. It looks like some people have used bondo or something to get a smooth finish before gelcoating. Any info here would be helpful.

I used only epoxy based fairing compounds and for final filling I used the Interlux "watertite filling compond". Mixes easy at a 50/50 ratio for only what you need, sands easy and goes a long way.

I layed mine up with Poly, and had planed on using gellcoat&Duratech for the finish coat. I used Cabosil and gellcoat made into a bondo like paste, then sanded as necessary. I put on about 4 coats, because of the transom cut out I had a bunch of waves and lines to make up. The nice part is you only need to sand down to 80grit or so with a gellcoat top coat, its so thick it takes alot of the 'sin' out. Also if you are doing a big bracket it will cover a bunch up too.
*just make sure your sealant surface is nice and flat*

Mike - I have a buddy that has a marine plywood transom (2 layers of 3/4") already cut and ready to install for a 23 . . . I think he only wanted $100. Give me a call if you are interested.

Now you tell me Lol.... Give me a heads up when you want that trailer. It is still sitting in the same spot. I can hold it until the spring if you want.

I used Pensky Board covered by multiple layers of 1708 and 1808 bonded with epxoy, a couple of grain filling coats of MAS Epoxy, then finished by trowling on a couple of coats of System Three's QuikFair. Came out great with very little sanding required and it has held up great.
