Just thought I'd share a couple of adaptations

Re: Rod arch
Gil-
Love that arch....where did you get it? Looks like you can also mount outriggers on the outsides??..plenty of rod holders too What did you end up using for backer plates? Nice location where you mounted the arch..you still have room to walk to the bow without falling overboard!!! Wiring.....I still cant get motivated to do mine!!!! -Fred

Re: Rod arch
Fred,
I got the arch from a friend who had it mounted on his BW Revenge 20. He tore it up on a tree while parking one day. He offered it to me cause he didn't have time to repair it. I cut away the damage and welded on new flanges. I shaped some HDPE blocks to fit snugly inside the gunwales and through bolted with 2" 1/4" x 2o machine screws and ss fender washers and nylocks on the back side. It's pretty stout. It's a little low for a taller guy but unless I get launched by a wave, my head clearance is acceptable. Definitely plenty of rod storage. 2 on each seat, 2 on each gunwale and the 6 up top. The deck lite is nice and being able to mount the antenna up there will give me greater com range. I'm contemplating running some pipe forward and down off the arch to make a small convertible top... we'll see. Now that every thing seems good the t & t is leaking somewhere. I think it's a hose but uncertain...but they are pretty raggedy.

Re: Rod arch
Great friend to give you an arch..and good work with the fabrication......it is always something with the boat/engine but it is good therapy...I am on the short side 5'11" so would work good for me......a frame for bimini would be a great idea..I bet you could find bimini hardware and tubing out there and design something for the arch....or use existing frame..still love your custom seats/storage...mine went to the curb...could not get them to look right plus used that sanded ply from HD...

Re: Rod arch
Dang Rhody, just when I was reaching contentment with Pacifico beer, you had to bring up my summer fave T & t... Gotta feeling this summer is not going to be very productive
Thanks for the compliment Tucker, but I am unworthy of the praise. The door is teak, but the frame and the seat backs and tops are mahogany. The frame is 6 or 7 coats of McCloskey's ManOWar spar high gloss poly and the seats boxes are sporting some ancient white yacht enamel. The mahogany just has a few sealer coats of 2:1 epoxy. I borrowed this idea from Joey whose bright work is awesome. I hope to top coat it soon with either some more gloss poly or I may try a clear awlgrip or clear automotive paint a friend offered me. Haven't decided. Joey and some others had some good advice on teak maintenance about a year back. I think Joey would sand to wood, 3 coats of epoxy, and 7-10 coats of clear awlgrip or something...search his posts from a year or so ago. Wood shimmered like diamonds in his pics. Lots of opinions on that teak stuff. Honey Teak or Snappy Teak got some good reviews. Out here Cetol is popular.

Re: Rod arch
Thanks for the info - I'll look back to see what he had to say.
That Cetol stuff is getting popular this way too. From a distance it looks great, the closer you get to it the worse it looks. The upside to it seems to be the minimal maintainance. |
