Default Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament

Fished the tournament on a 28 Carolina Classic "Due Diligence". Day one was as they say sporty, we left the dock at 3:30 am and ran 30 miles South of the Vineyard. It was slow going 12-14 knots and our props got to see sunshine more than once, but we wanted to get away from the fleet and fished with no boats in sight or on Radar all day. We released a Mako on day one that went around 150 pounds.

Day two we ran much further and didn't see a single boat all day after we rounded the Vineyard. Again, we went to a spot where I knew there wouldn't be more than one or two other boats if any. It's difficult to bring fish to the boat when you are competing with another 100 chum slicks. Our first fish day 2 was our last fish, fought it for a long time and she just pulled hard and deep the hole time. When she got to the boat she was spent, so we quickly fly gaffed her, tail roped her and pulled her over the gunnel and headed for the barn. It was a Thresher that weighed in at 414 pounds and we took biggest fish day 2, second biggest overall, and 3 overall in the tournament. We met a-lot of great people and the tournament was run very well. It will be aired on Spike Network September 3rd. [image][/image] [image]http://[/image] [image]http://[/image] [image][/image]

Nice Fish, Indeed !!!

Was there for the weigh-in on Saturday, saw several nice threshers

Heard some real horror stories about Fri - pretty rough out there, quite a few boats came in early.

On a 28, you were on one of the smaller boats entered - should have seen some of the others - some big sporty's, and a wicked looking Yellowfin, probably about 36 - 40 ft, a center console (??) where the console looked big enough to be a cabin for four - and four big Merc Verado's on the back.

Always an interesting time.

Congrats, again, on the Nice Fish !!!

Bill

I think there was about 275 boats entered. We put a-lot of time in getting ready for this tournament, but I'm sure LUCK had a-lot to do with it as well.

maybe so, but luck isn't going to help without doing lots of things right. Congrats on the catch.

BTW Bill, I was on the smallest boat in the tourny - on a 23 ft Palm Beach. Fished both days, though a bilge pump problem caused us to run in by 1:30 on Friday.

That Yellowfin was hull #1. It's there new 42 foot walk around. It had a cuddy in the middle and a marlin tower as well. Very nice boat. There was also a few 36 Yellowfins there. There was some serious big money boats this year like a 58 Tribute, Davis's, a handful of 55+ foot Vikings, and a small fleet of 45 Cabo's.

I was on a 61 Viking late night that could show the chart plotter, XBox, TV, and underwater cameras on a 4 way screen in the salon on the 50" flat screen TV. You could configurate it however you wanted. Oh, and she cruises at 32 knots as a mere 114 gallons an hour....ouch.
