2006 Plywood Regatta Dania Beach
To all South Floridians. April 29th and 30th the new home of the Plywood Regatta is Dania Beach at the pier please try to stop by.
For those who don't know, the Plywood Regatta is an event for students (elementary, middle, high school and vocational school)who are in Marine Magnet Programs and Marine related programs. The 2 day event consists of a day of building a seaworthy boat out of 3 sheets of 1/8 plywood (door skin) and 10 tubes of 3m 5200 caulk. Day 2 (Sunday) is the fun part! THE RACE! (more like the titanic)The students race in heats to crown a winner. The winning student's school is given a $1000.00 donation to their Scholarship Fund. One of my daughters is competing again (the other one graduated and is off to Florida Gulf Coast College in the fall). Last years race was a riot. Of course my daughters boat won first place last year. This year I don't have a team but I will be mentoring my daughter's team (Shaken Knot Stirred II) I will be involved on the Committee and judging. And THANKS goes to Generator for supplying us with POWER again. For more information Plywood Regatta
