Default hull to deck and inner liner

I recently inspected a 20' I/O where the hull to deck joint was seperated from midships to the transom on both sides. it appears the inner liner would need to be removed to properly repair. has anyone removed their inner liner and just how difficult is this? this boat is very rough, but just might be the project i am looking for.
additionally the fuel tank is located below the forward seat of the console, i was under the impression the tank was below deck. is this tank installation normal or aftermarket ?

Bunker,

the fuel tank is above the deck on 60's and early 70's. Not sure why you need to remove the liner for a deck-hull joint? Can't you just fasten it with screws? The liner could be difficult to remove, you just don't know until you try. If the bedding compound is really secure, it could be a real pain. Hope you have a block and tackle set up to lift it out. Don't pay much at all for a boat that needs that kind of work.

UNFORTUNATELY I AM PRETTY SURE THAT SCREWS WOULD ONLY BE SHORE TERM REPAIR. THIS BOAT NEEDS COMPLETE RECOATING (GEL OR L.P.) AS WELL AND WOULD NOT WANT TO EVER HAVE TO READDRESS THIS ISSUE. AS FAR A DOLLARS GO I WOULD HAVE TO STOP AT 2,000 AND THAT IS ABOUT 500.00 HIGH, BUT THIS IS THE MODEL I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. LINER REMOVAL WOULD ALSO ALLOW FOR ANY STRINGER REPAIRS AND POSSIBLY PUTTING THE TANK BELOW DECK, JUST A THOUGHT.

My 20ccI/o had the same liner problems. The problem is that SC used wood strips to make up the height differencefrom the top of the stringer to the bottom of the liner, then put a thickened resin to glue them together. The resin broke, I cut foam strips and laminated them with epoxy fillets then glassed it around the inside of the engine well to the top of the stringer. Strong as hell now.
You may as well plan on putting a transom in it. I saw no reason , on my rig to remove the liner, the deck is firm , I just had to recore all the hatchs, btw, my tank is in the hull.

I am considering buying a 300 dollar , 1967 , 20' cc outboard seacraft . It has the same liner to gunnel disconnection problem . It also needs a transom and stringers seem crappy at transom . Could you be a little more specific and or clear for a beginner about how you would fasten liner to hull when it is already bonded in places ? How much should aperson pay to have stringers and a new transom installed ? How about some info for a brginner ? Thanks -

There was no 20 CC in 1967??

Most inner liners are bonded at the bottom of the deck to the top of the stringers and then bed with 5200 and rivits/screws when the rub rail goes on. Some companies take it a step further and glass the inner liner to the hull and deck cap, if there is one.
