Any More details ?

I don't know the area, would be coming down from New Hampshire - would love to join in !!!

This would probably be about a 3+ hour trailer haul, for me, what time is everyone meeting, and where ?

is this just the 15th, with 16th as a rain date, or what?

what/where are the local launching ramps?

Inquiring minds need to know

Bill

Bill-

I am not much into planning.

So the plan is loose, go to Chatham to fish in the AM and then meet up at one of the hard to get to by land beaches and enjoy some frosty beverages and burger or 3.

The plan is for Saturday the 15th but if it rains on Saturday the 16th is the rain date.

I am sure we can meet up with you before you get to the Chatham area so you can fgollow us to a ramp.

I was thinking of using the Ryders Cove ramp, near the marina but it may be quite crowded.

Do any locals have available parking nearby or can you suggest a beter or optional ramp?

no mater what ramp you use, the parking is going to be tricky. My father lives in chatham but on the other side of town. you may have a better chance of finding a spot if you get there early.

There is also a ramp at River Road in Orleans. People park one the right side of the street after you launch. There is probably room for 10 or so truck and trailers. The only downside is you are at the end of the bay vs, the middle with Ryders Cove. Not a bid deal though.

SwampYankee-

There is/was a ramp down the street from the main Nauset Marine in Orleans. It sounds as you describe, park along side the road. It was a great trip from there to pleasant bay, totally protected and lots of sights, is this the ramp you are thinking of?

I believe so. Nauset Marine East is on Meetinghouse Pond. There is only one possible ramp on the pond, which is small and probably not a great launch ramp. River road is probably what you are thinking of. There is a small turnaround at the end with a Town dock that could hold 4 boats tied up. Meetinghouse pond is just up river and you can see it from the Ramp/Dock. It is a beautiful ride down the river into Pleasant bay. The river is no wake until it opens up. After you drop your boat in you park on the right side of the Road. No stickers or permits needed.

Guys-

I am far from an expert on the subject of trailer in and around Chatham, but two things I do know for sure is the parking is extremely limited so if you go, go very, very early and second is the Pleasant Bay area can be a real SOB if you are unfamiliar with the area and there is any fog at all.

Another idea is to launch at either Saquatucket Harbor on Route 28 in Harwichport or Bass River Beach in South Yarmouth. Both have excellent ramps, both have tons of parking and both have open access to Nantucket Sound.

Further, I would caution anyone unfamiliar with the Chatham area about running through inlets if they don't know them very well. I come through the southway about once a week in season and it can still be tricky no matter what. And if it's foggy, yikes.

It is far easier to run south of Monomoy around the tip and shoot back north after launching from Bass River or Harwichport. There are many guys on this board who know Chatham far better than I, maybe they might disagree, but for anyone who is going for the first time it ca be a challenge.

Just my two cents.

Yes, Anyone unfamilar with Chatham coming alone should heed Hooper's comments / advise,

Although Fog is a strong possibility lets hope for a nice day.

There will be no get together if fog is likely
