If the hook is only on one side, that's a different story and it should be fixed. If it's consistent on both sides, maybe not. I know the Potter Seacrafts don't have a hook, but I wonder if some boat manufacturers don't intentionally put hook in their hulls to keep the bow down at higher speeds. My '83 20SF has some hook. It's not from a Potter mold. Seacraft Industries stretched the 20SF 8 inches from the Potter version. My 18 Action craft also has some hook. It's only in the last 12" of the bottom and looks intentional. My 17 Hewes project has some too.

In reading about hook on THT in one of the Formula 233 rebuild threads, some guys were talking about it on those hulls. According to one of them the hook was purposely built into the molds on those boats to retard potential WOT with high HP (hook on both sides of the running bottom). Not sure if this is true nor do I know if it pertains to SCs. I do know the hook on my father's '82 Sceptre 23 (port side only) forces that side of the boat down while running.

Actually a hook on the Port would cause it to list to the starbord side. Same as having a port trim tab down.

If you look down the chine of a 20' SeaCraft hull, you'll see what I'd call a slight wedge rather than a hook, from the transom extending forward about 10', only in the outer panel. It's probably in the 19 Bowrider also, since the aft part of the mold was the same on those, although I haven't looked for it on a 19 or the 21. I suspect it's there to provide additional stern lift at lower speeds. As a deep V picks up speed, it'll rise progressively higher out of the water. By about 40 mph the chines are almost completely out of the water, so a wedge in the outer panel would have virtually no effect on top speed. Pretty clever idea actually, one of many that Moesly came up with!

well i may be putting off my 23 project totally. i came across a 23 contender that has not been used for about 6 years. its been hanging on their dock. i would be able to pick it up for less than i would be putting into my 23 project. i should find out by the end of the week if the deal goes through or not. it needs to be re-wired and have the hydraulic steering fixed and have electronics put in it. i know its a good hull too so i dont think ill be unhappy with it.

What happens if/when you find rotten stringers in the contender

IMHO if you can rebuild the hull you really want with materials and techniques that will make it last at least a generation, then your better off vs buying another used boat at the same price that may need that same work eventually.

Of course if the idea is to get back out on the water ASAP then I completely understand.

I have agreed to buy my 23CC (pick up in the next week) or else I would offer to buy your project from you.

well that MAY get me off the hook for saying I was coming by and never did.
Life just got complicated and I just plain forgot.
Good luck on the new purchase, I saw a SeaVee in the neigborhood that has not been used much with 2 140's that he's trying to sell. I made the guy an offer but he did not take it....well months later he had it for sale and the ask price was less than my offer. If you want to see it I think he still has it...let me know

no worries jorge. i put a deposit on the tender tonight. i will pick it up friday. the 225 ox66 yamaha has excellent compression, the steering needs to be fixed, im going to re-wire it so i know its good, upgrade all lights to LED's, buff and polish it. needs electronics too but i can use a handheld gps just to run it around. the reason for buying this boat was that i got it for about 5k less than i would need to put into my project. the plan is to fix up the tender and use it and if i dont like it then ill still have the seacraft to rebuild and i can sell the tender. it will come home friday so there will be pics friday nite.
