Nice looking fish! I got two that size into the boat (Maritime Skiff 20') this year solo, and I agree, it's a challenge. I'm looking around for a nice Sceptre/Tsunami for next year at Stellwagen. At close to 6' 3" I'm not sure but I feel like I might be just a little too big for a Seafari

Next year should be interesting with all these 58" fish a year later (and a year bigger)

We had the same sized fish this Aug and Sept in Southern NJ. They are powerful brutes, aren't they?

Did I read that right, Rapalas and Slugos? I think we used to bass fish with those lures. Nice fish! What type of Rapalas do ya'll pull up there?

We troll the Rapala X-Rap diver usually in black. Sluggos can be the 9 inch or the 12 inch, usually in White, Arkansas Shiner or sometimes black. Two ways to use the sluggo....trolling unweighted on 7/0 Owner Jobu or Owner Longshank hook. Or you can jig them on a heavy duty weighted jig head.

I've caught a handful of these over the ladt 4 years, but Nick definitely is more knowledgeable and consistent. I am sure he will pipe in with more suggestions.

Rapala X-Raps were working well for most, and the color for me was their mackeral. I have pogie and a silver black, but stuck with the mackeral most times since it was producing.

Tried sluggos on the troll, with no success and a if not paying attention especially unweighted they produce a mono tangle so large you can wear it as a sweater on the way home

I caught the one on the trevala on a simple 8oz hammered diamond jig which was a blast!

I had another on a RONZ weighted silver type of sluggo on the cast, but that fish hit like a sledge hammer and the braid appeared to have parted at the mono Slim Beauty knot connection. Knot positive from the evidence, but when back to Uni-Uni success knot.

Great catches Nick, here's a west coast specimen from late Oct. Never got any real numbers and the skipper said it was a bigeye. Pretty sure it's a nice BFT (shorter pec fin). Truth is most of the BFT around here are 30-50#. 100# class are rarely culled on rod and reel 'cause people tend to go out geared for 40# fish and get spooled. Here's my colleague, Otis, he's 6'2" & 285#.
Sometimes its better to be lucky than good. Got him on the troll. Poor s.o.b. can't even tie a Palomar knot but he sure can eat sushi with the best of them...
