30K+ is crazy pricing. But that would be great to have the economy, range, safety and reliability of a diesel. I'm not surprised that those guys are designing their own lower unit. I imagine that even the super tough 3.0L merc units will have some issues with the torque of the diesel.

If I had unlimited funds . . . I would consider one of those beasts.

Until 5 years ago diesel almost always cost less than Regular Gasoline and off road diesel (- .24 cent tax) would have been far less.

See ya, Ken
Wait a month. Difference here in Citrus County is only 23 cents. Off-highway diesel (which is legal to use in a boat kept in the water) is 6 cents cheaper than gasoline. Mix that with bio-diesel, and you can save lots of money. But probably not $30K worth.

MEG's website shows a cost-of-ownership difference of $58,000 over 1000 hours of use, NOT including engine purchase price. And considering the 8000 hour life of the diesel, suddenly, it seems pretty cost-effective. If only I had the $$, I'd love the 2.3L 200 for my Seafari

Hey Big, Can you get me one of those $500 Mercs? I'd be much obliged, sir. That action photo of your red flying machine is great. Thanks for posting those block fotos too. Can the motor's blocks be identified by their cowlings or serial nos.?
