Alright maybe it wasn't 50 lbs. But I've caught many 30+ on those rigs, on rattle traps no less.

Great for castin eels and plugs into shore or into the breakers.
John ..I Gotta laugh ... As we were out lookin for them a week ago .... we are throwing at the surf and jetty guys and they were throwing at us!! .... Grass is always greener on the other side I guess...Its much more sporting however playing in the breakers in a boat at night

a Stradic 4000 for plugging.
Yo Scott ....Does the bail ever flip mid cast on ya with that reel .... If I don’t move the “open” bail around to the hammer I can expect pluggage or metal on a very quick "return to sender" path !!!!

Yo Rodney .... Whats up with the "picture" under your name ??? Shoplifting pictures again I see

Nope. I made literally hundreds of casts in one week last September on the Vineyard catching albies and not one bail closure. I throw 1-2 oz metal and no problems whatsoever. I've also got a Stradic 5000, no problems with that one either.

Scott, what kind of rods qualify? We all have different rods for different kinds of fishing. And I don't think Robin is going to get you all of them for Christmas.

I personally think that's a great choice! I'm saving one for my newborn grandson, 7 lbs, 9.6 oz's and 19 inches long. Born today at 1:06 am in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (missed the PH anniversary by just an hour!). I'm breaking him into fishing in 1 week so I hope his mom's ready! (At least it was my son doing someone else's daughter this time.)
