It is a 27ft gofast hull, but it had too many good parts to pass up.

I thought I'd add this link to the thread since it seems relevant. 350's are so cheap . . . it seem like it'd be really easy to put together a decent motor for short money. Carbs are so simple and clean that it seems like that's the way (in a boat) to go vs. fuel injection.

Post from "Kornegle"

" I have posted a similar reply before, but I purchased the standard Vortec castings from Summit Racing not the ones with Iconel. I removed the stock heads from a 1990 / 91 Mercruiser 260. Kept the same pistions, installed the Vortecs, an Edelbrock Performer manifold, 1.5 roller Rockers, XM256 cam, Outer Z28 valve springs, new Mercruiser manifolds and risers. This is a heavy 3300+lb Wellcraft Eclipse 21 1/2 ft. Cuddy. Before mods, ran about 52.7 on GPS with a Mirage 21P. After mods turned a Mirage 23P at 5000 - 5100 rpm and 60.3 on GPS (a lot of propeller slip on this antique hull). So all these mods together picked up around 7 mph. I can only estimate that might be 300 propshaft HP from the previous 230 propshaft HP, but only a guess. There is a bit more in it with the right prop. "

From Baypro

"I went from a old, tired 235hp 5.7 4 barrel to a 300hp and gained 8mph at 3400rpm's after repropping. I don't think a supercharger is your only option. I believe you will see a noticeable differance with:

vortec heads // hi-rise aluminum intake (marine) // and a cam with these specs: lobe lift intake .287 exhaust .300 // duration intake .307 exhaust .294 // this gives a valve lift of .431 in and .450 ex. with 1.5 to 1 rockers (your cam may already be within these specs).

I believe the better breathing vortec heads makes most of the differance but you need a intake with them (differant bolt pattern). The al. intake manifold should be good for 10-15hp.

I was cruising at 3400/24mph and now cruise at 3275/30mph. My best cruise economy went from 2.25mpg to 3.4mpg.

The alpha drive handles up to 300hp, I avoid full throttle accelleration (not needed anymore anyway) and I very rarely use wot."

Anytime you deal with "Stainless Marine" you better have your wallet. No one has mentioned a 350 with a Bravo 2 drive with 2.2 Ratio, 18 diameter stainless prop with 19P. You will be able to cruise at 20kts at 2800-3000 rpms 24kts at 3200rpms. The bigger diameter prop is the key for economy. Oh yeah and the bravo 2 has the least amount of service visits for an average mercruiser shop. Bravo 2 is bullet proof
