Default 1979 Master Angler Fuel Tank Replacement

This boat will ultimately be fishing offshore of Hernando Beach, Fla., with a potential for some long runs. The tank has been removed from its coffin, and is the 78-80 gallon upgrade, but unlegible. I’d like to slide consul forward, but even four inches will make it impassible. Have considered cutting away forward seat/storage and adding a padded cooler for seating and forward weight. While spending too much time inside the boat, beer(s) in hand, I remembered the only soft spot in the deck is forward of the consul.

After reviewing 69SeaCraft’s “Massive Untapped Storage” post, I thought maybe I’d pull up the deck, inboard of stringers, recore, and extend coffin and tank forward. How much is too much fuel?

If I did not use Joe R’s suggestion of a removable tray and hatch for dry storage, I could extend tanks forward wall of coffin. Also, fuel fill and vent are port aft, so if the boat is aft heavy, or not sitting level on trailer when fueling, can I run fuel fill hose forward of tank and “push” fuel up and into tank?

I think that’s enough for now. Should have taken meds earlier...

Thanks,

Vezo, Part II

I do not see any mechanical fasteners between deck and upper lip of fuel tank coffin. I don’t imagine it was molded into the MA’s original deck. Anyone know if it’s bonded with Potter Putty?

The fuel tank hold on my 18 WAS molded to the liner...all 1 piece.

Well that’s interesting. Would not have guessed that. Thanks Boo.
