good news is steering is fixed. bad news is boat is still sad. we water tested again with mechanic today, swapped in a known good computer and have the same issue. by passed ecu controlled ground with same result. bypassed power with same result. eliminated a harness problem. good news is he is not giving up on the motor.

I'm on my 4th OX66 motor and hope it never dies. Is there still an anti-siphon valve at the tank? Is the tank vent clear?

Give these guys a call and ask for Chip (he's the owner).. they are Yamaha magicians and are always willing to help if you're a customer of not. If it's something they never encountered before they will bend over backwards to figure out the problem.

it is fixed! great fathers day present. the oxygen density sensor was the cause of the 4k rpm shut down. took it out today for a test and ran great with no issue at all.
