I have heard you can't change the cable length but you could fix a cut in the cable by soldering the splice. My furuno cable was damaged so I made a clean cut, soldered and heat shrinked all 5 wires and then coated it with liquidlectric tape and all is fine.

I didn't cut my cable. When it was on the transom I ran it through the wiring duct from the console to the transome bilge then ran the wire out the engine cable exit and over the transom. (Actually had to run it the opposite way but same path). With the way I have it now I did not cut the cable either.. it is out of the way, no wires over the transom, no extra holes anywhere. Except the now unused screw holes in the transom to hold the transducer mount that I will now seal up.

Humminbird shows a special way to "coil" up the slack cable. Don't cut it..

Kbay,

Am I correct in assuming you are using a transom mount transducer in the peanut jar?
