Install leaning post
Hey guys, I am taking out those silly bucket seats and installing a new leaning post. Can you give me any tips on installing it? I cannot gain access below the floor. Also, any recommendations on filling the old screw holes would be appreciated as well.
thx a lot. MM

Re: Install leaning post
We put on in my 20cc and used molly bolts to secure it to the floor, mainly b/c its soft in spots, and then filled the holes from the pedestals with west sytem. the west system firmed things up a little.
the other thing that was almost a problem was the leaning post is either 28 or 30 inches which isn't wide enough to span the livewell in front of the motor. we notched out the corners of the leaning post feet to make it fit around the live well edges. She is solid as rock now.

Re: Install leaning post
Great, the west system is the stuff to use, are there certain types of west system? What did you seal the new holes with, 5200? I was thinking of using 4200 so I can remove the leaning post if need be.
thx, MM

Re: Install leaning post
it was just the basic west system kit... 4200 is the ticket if you want to get it out. mine is only coming out if the deck/floors get redone.

Re: Install leaning post
I think properly sized stainless steel screws bedded in 4200 or 5200 is sufficient. If you can get a nut on the bottom of the floor with a washer on a bolt, that's the way to go. I don't know about the molly bolt thing. If the floor is soft, you need to fix it...
The old holes should be drilled oversize and filled with a 2 part epoxy (West) thickened mixture. The repair can be finished with gel coat.

Re: Install leaning post
Yep took those silly Buckets outta mine a few Years ago. There in the Dog House. I just marine tex'd the holes because I was redoing the whole boat(paint etc) . I then just screwed the base down to the deck.5200 arund the holes & in them. This way i can remove it to get to the fuel tank.
Works great.

Re: Install leaning post
agreed...this was a short term fix and replacing the floor in the boat is part of the longer term plan.
